Queen’s Award

West Sussex Mediation Service has been honoured with a prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK. The award recognises exceptional service by the charity’s volunteers within the community, across West Sussex.

The award was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of The Queen’s coronation. It is the MBE for volunteer groups. Such awards are published in a special edition of the London Gazette on 2nd June. This is the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. Fittingly, the date also coincides with Volunteers’ Week which runs from 1st to 7th June 2019.

Service Co-ordinator for the charity, Nick Handley said, “We are incredibly proud of this Award. It is great to see all our volunteers being recognised for all their hard work and commitment. We also hope that it will help to put West Sussex Mediation Service firmly on the map.”

To celebrate the work of its volunteers, during Volunteers’ Week, the charity is holding a celebration event at the Ashurst Village Hall, Ashurst on the evening of Wednesday 5th June. A formal presentation of the Award will be made by the Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex later in the year.

Four other charities in West Sussex were recognised this year.
