Mediator Training

We are proposing to hold an Initial Community Mediation Skills course in November to bolster our volunteer numbers in certain geographical locations across West Sussex.

The proposed dates are: 7-8th November plus 20-22nd November 2015. This training is provided free in return for a commitment to volunteer for us for two years (hopefully much longer).

If you are a good listener and communicator and can remain impartial and non-judgmental you might be someone we are looking for. You must also be able to maintain our strict rules around confidentiality.

If you would have time to commit to volunteering with us (either daytimes or week-day early evenings) we would love to hear from you.

Our training course is fun and interesting but you should know that there is quite a lot of role play involved, to practise the various scenarios we deal with. There is also a requirement to complete a portfolio in order that candidates can gain accreditation through the Open College Network (Laser Learning South East). Candidates must also commit to ongoing training and supervision.

Our existing mediators find the work very rewarding and many of them have been volunteering with us for many years. Our longest serving mediator, Martin, has been with us for 14 years.
