Intergenerational Week

National Intergenerational Week – it’s on the calendar, so we might as well give it a mention, although to a large extent, due to Covid-19 the things that are being promoted will be on hold currently. It’s the first time it is being given a shout out and is all about celebrating those moments and places where different age groups come together for shared benefit.

WSMS provides a free Intergenerational Mediation service. See our leaflet here. If you have relationship difficulties within your family we can help aid/restore communication, improve understanding and help resolve conflicts. We use specially trained mediators who have been subjected to enhanced DBS checks. Do get in touch if you feel that you could benefit from this service. It is not to be confused with Family Mediation which deals with separating/divorcing couple, which is a paid service.

There are some great community initiatives going on currently to help keep in touch with the elderly and more vulnerable who are required to self isolate. Mother’s Day was unfortunately affected. Here is one scheme you could help support – a Facebook Group ‘Postcards of Kindness’ which involves sending a postcard to those isolated from friends and family in care homes.

For the tech savvy there is an App called Houseparty which is a social media platform designed for groups of three or four people. This is a free application available for download on smart phones. This is similar to Skype and FaceTime, with the exception that Houseparty can host groups of people instead of just two people at a time. This app is easy to use. As soon as you log on you can see who in your group of friends is online and you can either start a new chat or join in on chats, where there is room. A split screen enables you to keep track of everyone. We are starting to use Zoom for work purposes.
