Fundraisers Needed

We write this post as we reach the end of another financial year and again find that we haven’t managed to balance the books during a very difficult time for small charities.

Do you want to ‘give something back’, improve your skills or share your existing ones, enhance your feeling of wellbeing, meet new people, ‘make a difference’? Well how about becoming a fundraiser for our great small charity – winner of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2019.

We help resolve conflicts in the local community through the use of Mediation. We have 60+ volunteer mediators servicing around 300 referrals a year. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and give up many hours of their free time for the good of their local community. We specialise in neighbour disputes and conflicts within family groups, across the generations. To help subsidise our free work we offer Workplace & Family Mediation (divorcing/separating couples) on a fee-paying basis. The Charity operates from a small office in Horsham with three paid members of staff.

We are looking for individuals of all age groups (over 18 years) with the enthusiasm and ability to commit some time to being a fundraiser.

The fundraising can be in any form – organising community events (however simple or grand as long as their is a return on the investment of your valuable time), promoting online fundraising platforms, seeking corporate support/sponsorship, funding bids to trust/foundations. Whatever area you are comfortable with – that works for us. We don’t currently have a fundraising team. The Service Coordinator currently has to wear many hats, including fundraising and needs your help! Could you rope in some friends or family to help? We would however provide all the backroom support that we can. We have various publicity material, outdoor events equipment and fundraising stock (e.g. for Christmas events).

We struggle each year to make ends meet, but somehow have managed to do so for 20 years now. Grants from statutory organisations are shrinking and that is only going to get worse due to Covid-19. We are not a natural charity to lean towards. We are often dwarfed by bigger, sexier charities, even locally. You can help prove that we are a worthwhile cause to support.

Skills

We like diversity. If you have at least some experience in Fundraising, then great, but don’t worry if not! It could look great on your CV!

We have struggled for years to attract good people to help us bring in the pennies. Many people are more attracted to the bigger and sexier good causes. We all love them. Some have huge targets that they need achieve. We only need to make around £90,000. We would love it to be more, as we could achieve greater things.

We just need your enthusiasm and energy. Give us a go. You’ll have nothing to lose.

Benefits

Volunteering is proven to benefit health and wellbeing. It is great for meeting people, from all walks of life. You can test/improve your own skills and it always look great on your CV. Helping a charity that has been recognised with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. We’ll even give you a certificate to that effect.
